Your Coaching Process

The four phases — from assessment to position.

EU and third-country qualifications are subject to different procedures. Which federal state best suits your profile depends on processing times, requirements and your specific situation — we clarify this together.

  1. 1

    Assessment: EU or Third-Country Route

Which route applies to you, which authority is responsible? We clarify this before you submit anything.

    Documents: Translations, Apostille & Legalisation

Every missing or incorrectly certified document costs months. We ensure your dossier is complete at the first submission.

Two documents — one difference

Approbation vs. Berufserlaubnis

Both permit medical practice in Germany — under very different conditions.

Approbation
  • Permanent, valid nationwide
  • Independent medical practice
  • Full medical licence
  • Decision rests with the licensing authority
  • Required for self-employment and panel doctor admission
Berufserlaubnis
  • Temporary, geographically and functionally restricted
  • Practice under medical supervision
  • Interim solution during the Approbation process
  • Regulations vary by federal state
  • Enables entry into work and income security during the process

Reform Notice · from 1 July 2026

For non-EU/EEA qualifications, the knowledge exam becomes the standard from 1 July 2026 (Bundestag resolution March 2026). Those without a pending application are starting under different conditions — the transition windows are narrow and authority-dependent. The right timing is now critical.

Third-country physicians in practices: Since 2025, physicians with a third-country qualification and valid Berufserlaubnis may also work in outpatient practices and MVZ as assistants — not only in hospitals. This is new and opens additional options for entering the profession.
